Ask five pool companies what a monthly service costs and you'll get five different numbers. That's not because anyone's overcharging - pool size, pump condition, chemical supply and visit frequency all move the price. Here's the general market picture for South Africa.

The general range

Recurring, professionally-managed pool maintenance in South Africa broadly runs R795 to R2,500 per month, based on published pricing from South African pool-service companies and comparison platforms. Once-off cleans (a single visit, or recovering a neglected or green pool) commonly run R600 to R1,900 per visit, and simple weekly call-outs without a fixed contract are often quoted per visit in the R500-R1,000 range.

These are general market ranges, not a quote for your pool - always get an on-site assessment, since the same "monthly service" can mean very different scopes of work.

What moves the price within that range

• Pool size and type. A small plunge pool costs less to service than a large family pool; unusual shapes, features (waterfalls, spas) or vinyl/fibreglass surfaces can add time.
• Visit frequency. Weekly service costs more overall than fortnightly, but a neglected pool serviced too infrequently often needs expensive once-off recovery later.
